St Nicholas Market
St Nicholas Market is the oldest and best loved market in Bristol, dating from 1743, it is famous for being home to some of the best food in the city. It is also home to an indoor market in the Exchange hall.
The idea was to help give the market its own look and feel and wayfinding system. Mostly adopting existing material such as the beautiful parish boundary mark carved into the wall, or the four corners of the world animal illustrations above the four door entrances to the Exchange hall. Also we found some old sack trucks in the basement which were adapted to serve as stall lists by the market entrances. The stall number signs were hand-painted by the legendary Bristol sign painter Coop. The lettering and number style we adopted some of the lovely on Bristol Tram graphics. The bright colours and letterpress work have a historic feel.
