Croft Court is a student residence in Stokes Croft, in the entrance courtyard there was an opportunity to give a nod to the layers of history in the area.
Firstly the club scene of the 1980s that led to some of the most important music of the 80s and 90s (known as trip hop). Reinterpreting club flyers of the time, the panels take artwork from letterpress wood type from our print shop. These were blown up and printed using vitreous enamel, an old process that produces very long lasting panels (these are 2 metres long each) made by AJ Wells on the Isle of Wight.
The second layer of history on the walls are the shops of 1899, where you could find a saddle, a hat, some new clothes, all made and sold in Stokes Croft. The shop names are painted by hand by Tozer, a Bristol based sign writer.

The building and artworks were completed in September 2026.
The artwork project was managed by Ginkgo and the building developed by Red Oak Developments.
